RAICHUR: Angered by a schoolboy soiling his uniform, a teacher threw boiling water on him, leaving the boy badly scalded, in Raichur district. But surprisingly, the boy’s parents have not lodged any complaint with the police or the education department.
Nikhil, a Class 2 student at the Ghanamatheshwara Primary and Secondary School at Santekallur in Maski taluk, hails from Mittikellur in Lingasugur taluk. on September 5, he had soiled his uniform, following which teacher Huligeppa had thrown hot water on him, leaving about 40 pc area of the boy’s body scalded.
The school authorities shifted the boy to the Lingasugur taluk hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
“The eight-year-old boy was admitted to the Ghanamatheshwara Primary and Secondary School for coaching. He had soiled his uniform after which he was scalded with hot water. The boy’s parents were later informed that he has been hospitalised. The parents, who are poor, should be compensated and there should be a proper investigation into the case. Locals say that this was the act of a teacher. The teacher should be dismissed and the child should be compensated”, said Chandra Reddy, a villager.
The district child welfare committee has already visited the school and the hospital and inquired about the child. The members are also trying to convince the boy’s parents not to come under any pressure and to file a complaint. If the parents do not do so, the committee itself will lodge a complaint.
“We received a call from the child helpline regarding the incident on September 5 evening. Child protection officer Hanumesh and Sudarshan from the child helpline and the Lingasugur CDPO visited the school and the hospital on September 6 and will file a report. We have requested the Maski police to take strict action against those responsible”, said District Child Protection Officer Mansoor Ahmed.

said, “I have sought a detailed report from the Block Education Officer. Based on the report, we will take action against those responsible for the incident.”
