One-month-old baby narrowly escapes unhurt in LPG cylinder blast at kitchen utensil store

BENGALURU: A one-month-old baby narrowly escaped unhurt in a LPG cylinder blast that occurred at a kitchen utensil store near Hulimavu in the city.

The intensity of the blast was such that window panes of houses and shops in a radius of 200 metres were shattered.

The incident took place at 10:55 pm last night at a shop owned by Suresh Das. One Rahul Das was injured in the incident. The shutters and utensils in the shop were also damaged. Two scooters parked on the road were completely damaged. The sound of the blast was heard within a radius of 1 km, causing panic among people and patients in nearby hospitals.

It is suspected that illegal cylinder refilling was being done in the shop, leading to a gas leak. An electric scooter was being charged in front of the shop, and sparks from the charger may have caused the blast, it is suspected.

The blast has been captured on CCTV cameras. The window panes of a house right opposite of the blast site, were also shattered, but fortunately a one-month-old baby was sleeping in the neigbhouring house, narrowly escaped unhurt.

The Hulimavu police visited the spot and have taken up further investigation.
