BUDAR: Following the confirmation of a multi-crore scam at Bidar Veterinary University, the Lokayukta police have arrested six accused, including a former vice-chancellor, in connection with the case.

In 2017-18, it was proven that Rs 45 crore was misappropriated by creating fake bills in the purchase of materials for the Veterinary University. Hence, based on an arrest warrant issued by the Bidar District Sessions Court, the Lokayukta police made the arrests.

During the tenure of the then vice-chancellor H D Narayanaswamy, K L Suresh (retired), who was the registrar of the Veterinary University, Mrutyunjaya Hiremath, FDA, Bopanna, owner of Bengaluru Enterprises, Manjunath, and Ramagonda, who withdrew money after it was deposited into accounts — a total of six accused have been arrested by Lokayukta police.

The multi-crore scam has created a sensation across the state. On September 10, 2025, Lokayukta police raided 25 places simultaneously over allegations of creating fake bills worth over Rs 45 crore. Veterinary University staff and private enterprise owners were involved in the scam. The six arrested accused were produced before a judge, and were remanded to judicial custody as per the order of the Bidar Lokayukta Special Court.

Under the guidance of Lokayukta ADGP Manish Karbikar, IGP Dr A S Subramanyeshwara, and SP C&T Badrinath, SP Siddaraju, Bidar Lokayukta DSP Hanumantaraya and staff carried out arrests.
