BENGALURU: A veterinary student, who should have been saving lives, has behaved inhumanely against an innocent stray dog for his medical practice.
The second year Master in Veterinary Science student of Hebbal Government Veterinary College, allegedly broke the leg of a healthy dog for his practice and then gave it treatment. It is said that the student got street dogs caught through private persons, broke the dog’s leg in a private hospital, then took same dog to Hebbal hospital and operated upon it for his practice.
A few days ago, a street dog had gone missing in Doddakannelli area under Bellandur police station limits. The person who was feeding street dog had installed a collar QR code on missing dog’s neck. After the dog went missing, they tracked the dog through QR code collar and it was found that the dog had gone to PrimeCare veterinary hospital in same area. Then, when the complainant Sadhana Hegde went there and enquired, the incident came to light. The woman went to Hebbal animal hospital, where already an operation was done on the dog’s leg and treatment also given.
Expressing outrage about this, animal lovers have registered complaint in Bellandur station regarding incident.Doctor Asif, who works at the private hospital revealed about breaking the dog’s leg and then being taken to Hebbal medical college and operated upon. The private veterinary hospital in Doddakannelli was also functioning without permission for last four years.
During spot inspection after the incident, the hospital was found to be conducting experiments on animals without giving anesthesia and keeping animals illegally in cruel conditions. During the raid on the hospital, 12 dogs and one cat were found in sick condition while one dog was found dead. The GBA animal husbandry department has issued a notice and the hospital has been closed.
An FIR registered regarding the incident has been registered at the Bellandur police station against the veterinary student Manjunath and private hospital doctor Asif under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960, and BNS sections. Dog lovers have urged police and GBA to trace those catching dogs illegally and take action against those responsible for incident.
