BENGALURU: An executive committee has been formed to achieve coordination among various departments in the city including GBA, BWSSB, Energy Department, BDA, and others, Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Friday, adding that meetings will be held every month from now on.
The committee will soon resolve many problems, including roads being dug up for pipeline work immediately after GBA lays a new road. It will achieve inter-departmental coordination, he said. He added that he won’t comment on the criticism about footpath encroachment clearance drive. “Bengaluru should benefit, that’s all. My intention is to do good work, he said.
“Many departments work in Bengaluru, but there is no coordination. Its adverse impact is felt by the public. If the GBA lays a new road, then BWSSB or KPTCL people dig up the road. This has caused a lot of problems. So, a systematic plan must be made to solve this problem”.

“The CM has included the executive committee in the GBA law and review must happen every two months. There must be coordination when doing any work. If necessary, coordination meetings will be held once a month. It can’t be changed all at once, but we will definitely try”, he said.
The minister said he has given strict instructions to officials. “All departments must upload everything on the online platforms. They should create a dashboard and upload all road works, BESCOM facilities, BWSSB works there. There should be a road history platform and officials must upload in their respective work plans”.
“Traffic police have also given some suggestions. In the Executive Committee, from the Police Commissioner to the Metro MD, KPTCL MD, BDA Commissioner, five GBA Commissioners, Fire Department officials, etc., all will be there. We held the second meeting today”, he said.
Reacting to a Public TV report on digging up of a newly laid road, he said this has become a problem He also said he will seek information from officials.

Minister Krishna Byre Gowda also inspected the Outer Ring Road on Thursday night. “There is a severe traffic problem on Outer Ring Road and we are examining what should be done to solve the traffic problem. Roads need to be redesigned and developed, but before that, we will call locals and hold a meeting. We will start development work based on their suggestions”, he said.
“Should we beg you to do your job?”

Regarding street vendors and traders’ objection to footpath clearance operation, he said, “We are only saying to do business on side roads, leaving the main road. Let them do business on side roads, who said no. If they say it must be here only, then how is it possible? Every year, more than 300 pedestrians die in accidents. Don’t their lives have value? What would you do if your family members met with an accident? We are clearing only 20 per cent, leaving 80 per cent”.

“Hotel owners have come forward to clear encroachments. Some companies have parked vehicles, shop owners have extended shops onto the road. No one will be spared. There are numerous problems in Bengaluru. In the next phase, we will develop stormwater drains and preparations are being made to develop them at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore. The CM has directed development of 260 km of stormwater drains”, the minister pointed out.
The minister inspected both sides of the Outer Ring Road from Lowry Junction to Silk Board Junction and from Silk Board Junction to Lowry Junction. Under B-Smile, a plan has been formulated to develop the 17.1-km road from Silk Board to Baiyappanahalli Metro Station to global-level design.
