BENAGLURU: The South Western Railway (SWR), Bengaluru division, has introduced a QR code-based ticketing system to curb the rising menace of fake unreserved railway ticket rackets in Bengaluru.
The system, which uses thermal printers, has been launched on a pilot basis at the Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station in Bengaluru.
Trinetra, Divisional Commercial Manager, SWR Bengaluru Division, said they have set up two counters with thermal printers at the station’s main entrance. The tickets can be printed out within two seconds, helping reduce queues and saving time.
He further said that similar systems have also been installed at other major stations, including Majestic, Yeshwantpur and KR Puram. To prevent ticket tampering, railway TTEs have been provided with special devices (app) that can detect the authenticity of tickets.
Tickets issued through thermal printers are impossible to duplicate. While ordinary printers take around 20 seconds to print one ticket, thermal printers can print a ticket in just two to three seconds, the SWR manager added.
