BENGALURU: In order to control crimes like mobile thefts, chain snatching, molestation, harassment in the city, the Bengaluru city police have decided to install 7,500 cameras under the Safe City project, which comes under Central’s government’s Nirbhaya scheme. The main intention of the project is protection of women and children and will be launched with public-private sector participation.
The department will install 7,500 cameras in the City in two phases and about 4,100 CCTVs will be installed in first phase. Of this, 3,400 cameras have already been installed at major locations. These cameras will cover almost all the areas and will directly be connected to office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the respective divisions. The command centre will also alert the local police stations in case of any incident.
The city will have around 20 safety island for women and eight drones will keep an eye on activities in different places. Training will be provided for women police personnel in the name under a scheme named after Rani Chennamma. The special features of the cameras is that they are equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the AI-based video analytics platform will allow analysis of video feeds from across the city.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Command Centre, Badrinath S said the Smart City project has already been launched in association with Honeywell Technologies under private sector participation. Integrated command centres for women and children, critical care response units and eight forensic vans have been deployed. Video feed will be given to all DCP divisions and awareness is being conducted by NIMHANS and NLSIU for who are below 18 years of age. About 300 women police constables will be trained under this project, he added.
