Two dead, at least five injured as APSRTC bus rams into moving lorry near Chikkaballapur

CHIKKABALLAPUR: Two people, including an APSRTC bus driver, died while several others were injured after the bus rammed into a lorry moving ahead, Doddapailagurki in Chikkaballapur taluk on National Highway-44 connecting Bengaluru and Hyderabad on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as the bus driver Lakshman (52) and passenger Umakant Rao (77), a resident of Kalyan Nagar in Bengaluru. Several others were injured and were treated at Chikkaballapur District Hospital and other hospitals. The bus was coming from Kurnool to Bengaluru when the accident occurred.

Due to the impact, the front portion of the bus was completely mangled and the driver was trapped in his seat. Police and rescue personnel, who rushed to the spot, used a crane to pull the front of the bus and retrieve the driver’s body. The sight of police pulling out the passenger’s body through the bus window was heartbreaking.

As soon as information about the accident was received, Peresandra police visited the spot and cleared both the crashed bus and lorry to allow traffic movement.
