MANDYA: A group of hooligans carried out a brutal attack on a family travelling in a car on the Maddur flyover on the night of July 5 over the issue of overtaking. Hooliganism on the Bengaluru-Mysuru National Highway in Mandya is increasing day by day, and public safety is now in question. The latest incident comes close on the back of an influential person’s son and his gang firing at a truck driver.

What started as a minor issue over overtaking escalated to the point where the entire family was assaulted. The horrific scene was captured on the dashcam of a car behind them. Sagar, a resident of Bengaluru, was travelling from Mysuru to Bengaluru in his car with his wife, children and mother. While on the service road in Srirangapatna, a group of hooligans picked a fight with them over overtaking.

Sagar’s family then moved ahead from there. However, the group was not satisfied and chased Sagar’s car in two vehicles. As soon as they reached the Maddur expressway flyover, they blocked Sagar’s car in filmy style. The hooligans immediately pounced on Sagar and hit him hard on the head with a jack rod. Even as his wife and mother pleaded with folded hands in the car to stop, the attackers showed no mercy. When an 8-year-old child cried and tried to intervene, the hooligans cruelly twisted the child’s hand.

After learning about the incident, Maddur police rushed to the spot and rescued Sagar’s family from the attackers. The injured are currently receiving treatment, and a serious case has been registered against the hooligans at Maddur police station. The series of crimes occurring on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway near Mandya has now left the public shaken.
