BELAGAVI: Due to the pouring monsoon rain, 25 villages in Khanapur taluk have been left in the dark with no electricity supply for the last four days. At several places, electricity poles have also collapsed, but not replaced. On top of that, there’s a leech menace on the ground.

Without electricity the lives of the villagers are in complete darkness. Families in Habbanatti village say they are struggling to cope with the situation. Residents of more than 20 surrounding villages are also spending their days in the dark due to what they call the “arbitrary decisions” of Hescom officials.

In the middle of intense monsoon rains, Hescom officials have delivered a shock to forest-fringe villages. In Habbanatti village, school children are studying by candlelight and families are cooking meals in the dark.

Due to continuous rain with strong winds in the Western Ghats region, power supply to the villages has been cut off. Citing the risk of trees falling on power lines and causing accidents, Hescom has disconnected electricity. Because of these arbitrary decisions by HESCOM officials, residents are forced to live in darkness.

Power supply has been cut to 25 villages including Habbanatti, Aamgaon and Kalamani in Khanapur taluk. The villagers are forced to cook in the dark and children are studying under candlelight.
