BENGALURU: A 65-year-old woman was brutally murdered and stolen her mangalsutra near New Millennium School Road in Uttarahalli. The victim, identified as Srilakshmi, was killed by an unidentified person.

On November 4, her husband Ashwath Narayan left for work at 9.30 am. When he called her at 2.15 pm, she didn’t answer the phone. He then contacted his tenant Phaniraj and asked him to check Srilakshmi at home.

After checking, Phaniraj informed him about Srilakshmi lying on the floor and not responding following which Ashwath Narayan rushed home to find her dead.

Ashwath Narayan filed a complaint with the Subramanyapura police station stating that his wife was murdered and her mangalsutra was stolen. The police have registered an FIR and are investigating the case. The police are trying to find the culprit who committed the crime. It is suspected that an acquaintance came and committed the crime.

The police have taken the tenant into custody for questioning. Six months ago, a couple who were living on rent in the same house had gone missing, leaving behind two items. Srilakshmi’s mangalsutra, weighing 40-45 grams, and a small pillow were missing from the house. Her nose ring, bangles and earrings were still intact.

Ashwath Narayan said that he left home at 9.30 am for the incense factory in Cottonpet where he works, then his wife spoke to her sister at 12.30 pm and everything seemed normal. Later, when he called her, but she didn’t answer. He then called the tenant, who went to check on her and found her unresponsive. By the time Ashwath Narayan reached home, his wife’s body had turned cold.

Ashwath Narayan said that the police are investigating the case and have questioned the people living in the neighbouring houses. The police are trying to find the killer and recover the stolen items.
