BELAGAVI: A criminal network of supplying ganja to youths in the form of chocolates in Belagavi has been uncovered with the arrest of one person hailing from Uttar Pradesh. The accused was identified as Bholu Prajapati.
The drug peddlers have been selling ganja by mixing it in chocolate and targetting college students, according to Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase. About 6 kg of ganja-laced chocolates have been arrested from the arrested, he said.
A chocolate weighing 5 grams and mixed with ganja is being sold for Rs 50 while as per rules, a Rs 50 chocolate should weigh 40 grams. This is a dangerous plan to get even minors addicted to narcotics, the police commissioner said.
The drug racket is mostly around colleges and the police have appealed to parents to keep watch on their children. It is suspected that the ganja chocolate network is operating from UP-Bihar all the way to Karnataka.
