BENGALURU: A woman was found hanging at her residence on Sunday morning. Her family has accused the husband of murdering her. The deceased has been identified as Niharika who was working as a teacher at a private school.
Niharika and her husband Karthik got married 4.5 months ago in Mysuru after five years of being in a relationship. After their marriage, he started abusing her physically and mentally. She had gone to her sister’s house and demanded a divorce, but Karthik convinced her family and they started living together.
Recently, Karthik abused her for attending a function at the school where she worked. Niharika’s family suspects foul play in her death and have accused the husband of murder. The family members of Niharika donated her eyes and fulfilled her last desire.
“Karthik often doubted her, and physically and mentally abused her for money. We had not agreed to their marriage, but his parents assured us that they would take good care of her. However, they began to demand money prior to their marriage. He used to physically torture her for money, and would not allow her to socialize,”said Shruthi, Niharika’s sister.
“On Saturday, he did not allow her to attend a meeting. I talked to her and convinced her to come home. After ten minutes, I again called her repeatedlyl, but it was switched off. I then called Karthik and he informed me about the incident. I strongly suspect foul play”, she added.
“Karthik abused my daughter physically and mentally. When she informed his parents about the same, they said they did not want to get involved in this matter. His parents visited their home once every 15 days. I suspect that, directly or indirectly, they were involved in her death. She stayed in her sister’s house for a while, but he came and convinced her that he would take good care of her. Later, she was found hanging in her house, “said Shivaling Aradhya, the father.
A case has been registered at Puttenahalli police station. The police have taken Karthik into custody for abetment to suicide.
