SHIVAMOGGA: Even after two months since the positions fell vacant, no physician, nurse or non-paramedical staff have been appointed at the well-equipped Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Kagodu in Sagar taluk. Locals are suffering every day due to the absence of doctors at the PHC, especially in times of emergencies.
This is one of the main health centres in Soraba Assembly constituency and people from 7 to 8 villages visit the facility. The PHC has remained unstaffed and the premises has also not been kept clean. Bushes cover half the premises, but the authorities don’t seem to be bothered. Villagers who come here for health check ups, have to return home as no staff are available.
No physician is available at the PHC in Kagodu.
An elderly woman, Siddamma said, “There is not a single doctor available to attend to patients. Old people come here to get treatment. The Soraba MLA Kumar Bangarappa has to act on recruiting doctors for the PHC at the earliest possible. The PHC has all the infrastructure, but no one stays here for long.”
Siddamma has demanded the Sorab MLA to act on the issue soon.Nataraj, another resident of Kagodu, said, “Poor people cannot afford treatment at private hospitals. The PHC has all the infrastructure needed, but none of the staff are willing to continue their service here for long. The government has provided quarters to all the staff, yet no one wants to stay back. The authorities concerned should take immediate measures to fill vacant posts. People are facing a lot of inconvenience due to lack of medical care.”
Natraj, one of the villagers, demanding that vacant posts at the PHC be filled up at the earliest.
The villagers here are now demanding the appointment of physicians and non-paramedical staff to the health centre.
