BENGALURU: Recently, Energy Minister K J George said there would be no loadshedding in the city. But citizens are experiencing power cuts every now and then. Fed up of this, they are looking for backup power in the face of unscheduled loadshedding.

People living in towns around Bengaluru are on a spree to purchase UPS units as backup against power cuts. The number of UPS sales has also increased, dealers says.

Murugan, a dealer of UPS units, said the UPS battery business is booming suddenly. “The last two years were bad due to the Corona virus and business had been completely shattered. Now business has bounced back to normal, and it has been good for the last month. The major reason is an uncertain power cut”, he explained.

Over the last few days, unannounced loadshedding is being witnessed in many parts of the state, including Bengaluru. Due to this, people from Bengaluru, Ramanagara, Hoskote, Kolar, Doddaballapur, Kanakapura, Magadi are thronging shops to buy UPS units. As a result of this, Siddaiah Road in the city, which is a hub of battery shops, is witnessing a sharp rise in sales.

Earlier, only about 50 UPS units and batteries were sold in a month, but now the sales has increased to 150 to 200 UPS and batteries. “Most customers complain about frequent power cuts. They buy online or directly from shops. Anyhow, schoolchildren and working people require power during loadshedding. Hence, there is good business for us now”, Murugan added.
