TUMAKURU: Five people died after two cars collided head-on near Godekere Gate in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk of Tumakuru district on Friday night. While four people died on the spot, one child died on Saturday at Nimhas hospital in Bengaluru.
Due to the impact of the collision between a Volkswagen Virtus car and a Kia Sonet car, Anam (3), Dawood Pasha (38) from Turuvekere, and Anil (32), Vivek (31) from Chikkanayakanahalli origin died on the spot. An injured girl, Sheema (6), died on Saturday at Nimhans in Bengaluru.

Four more people — Anil (32) from Chikkanayakanahalli, and Yasmin Taj (21), Seema (64), Asma (38) from Turuvekere were injured and have been admitted to Chikkanayakanahalli Government Hospital and are being treated.
Three people were travelling in the Volkswagen Virtus car coming from Chikkanayakanahalli side while five people were traveling in the Kia Sonet car coming from Turuvekere side. The Volkswagen car collided with the oncoming Kia car while overtaking. Due to collision two people in Volkswagen car — Vivek and Pavan from Chikkanayakanahalli — died. On the other hand, two people who were in the Kia Sonet died on the spot and one child died in hospital.

Kolar SP Ashok Venkat said on Saturday, “An accident occurred between a Volkswagen Virtus car and a Kia Sonet SUV near Godekere Gate of Chikkanayakanahalli on Friday night. The Volkswagen car was going from Bengaluru to Chikkanayakanahalli and collided with Kia Sonet car going from Chikkanayakanahalli to Turuvekere. The driver of the Volkswagen car came to wrong side while trying to overtake another vehicle and collided with Kia car”.
“Investigation is going on about whether youth in that car had consumed alcohol. In accident three of same family in Kia car — father Dawood (38) daughters Seema (6) and Anam (3) died and two people in Volkswagen car, Vivek and Anil, died. Dawood’s relative Chand Pasha has lodged a complaint and based on it, a case has been registered at Chikkanayakanahalli police station”, the SP added.
