BALLARI: Sahil Jain (24), the third accused in the gold smuggling case involving Kannada actress Ranya Rao, has been arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence. Sahil was in touch with Ranya through WhatsApp before and after her overseas trips.

Sahil Jain’s father Mahendra Jain and uncle run a textile business in Ballari and are residents of the town. However, Sahil and his family had shifted to Bengaluru and was earlier living with his uncle in Mumbai. He had previously been arrested in a similar case by the Customs officials at the Mumbai airport.

Sahil was in touch with jewellers and it is suspected that he may have sold the smuggled gold to them. Investigators also suspect that he may be involved in hawala transactions. Meanwhile, the DRI has also issued notice to Sahil’s father Mahendra Jain to join the investigation.
