Stuck in traffic, Bengaluru doctor chucks his car, runs 3 km to operate on patient

BENGALURU: A doctor, who was caught in traffic due to rain on the city’s roads, chose to get off his car and run 3 km to the hospital where he was to operate on a patient.

Dr Govinda Nandakumar, a surgeon at Manipal Hospital in Sarjapur, got stuck in traffic on his way to hospital. When he realised that he would not be in time for the surgery if he waited, he chose to run while asking his driver to bring the car later.

A patient had to undergo laparoscopic surgery of the gall bladder on August 30. Dr Govinda Nandakumar was travelling from Cunningham Road to Manipal Hospital in Sarjapur on that day when it was pouring heavily. As a result of incessant rain, Marathahalli and Sarjapur’s roads were fully congested.

The procedure was scheduled to start at 10 am. Due to the traffic, it took an hour to reach the hospital. The surgery team was already waiting for him.
