Hostels, PG accommodations also to be tested for food quality and hygiene, says health minister Khader

BENGALURU: After hotels, restaurants and the Shakti Soudha canteen, now it is the turn of hostels. Health Minister U T Khader has instructed the department officials to conduct food testing in hostels.

Speaking at the Arogya Soudha, minister Khader said that food prepared in hostels will be tested and the kitchens inspected for quality and hygiene. These include government-run, private and even cooperative hostels. The officials will check hostels for food quality, cleanliness and storage of food items, he said.

“We will check hostels, paying guest accommodations and everywhere where food is prepared. We will check catering establishments and raids are happening in central Bengaluru. District headquarters should also wake up.  People coming should be given quality food and not be cheated for the money they pay.Action will be taken according to rule violations”, he said.

Khader also instructed officials to conduct inspections at hotels in other districts. “We will also test hotels and catering establishments in other districts Under no circumstances will we skip and inspections will also be done at district headquarters also”, he said.
