MANDYA: A 14-year-old girl was seriously injured after her hair got stuck accidentally in a giant wheel on the premises of the Sri Ranganatha Temple in Srirangapatna on Saturday night.
The injured person has been identified as Srividya, a resident of Bengaluru. On the occasion of Brahmarathotsava in Srirangapatna, many devotees had come from different parts of the state. Srividya had come to witness the festival along with her parents. Her hair got stuck in giant wheel while she was taking a ride and she suffered serious injuries.
Immediately, Srividya was taken to the Srirangapatna Government Hospital for primary treatment and, on the doctor’s advice, she was shifted to a private hospital in Mysuru.
An FIR has been registered under Section 337 against Ramesh, the giant wheel operator, the chief executive officer of the temple and the chief officer at the Srirangapatna police station.
“Many devotees from all around the state had come for the temple festival. A giant wheel was setup without any prior permission from the taluk, district administration, or municipality. There were no safety measures and the operators escaped soon after the accident. The girl was somehow saved from the giant wheel and immediately taken to a hospital. The officials should check safety measures before allowing installation of giant wheels”, said Somashekhar, a local resident.
