KALBURGI: Huge cutouts of brothers R D Patil and Mahantesh Patil, the alleged kingpins in police sub-inspector recruitment scam, who were released from jail on bail last month, have suddently sprung up in Afzalpur.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai is scheduled to visit Deval Ganagapur in Afzalpur taluk on January 24 for unveiling a bronze statue of late Vithal Herur. Welcome arches for the event, with pictures of the brothers, claiming to be social workers, have now come up at the entrance of Afzalpur.

Recently, after R D Patil was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate, he allegedly escaped after pushing some CID officials who had gone to take him into custody. He, however, later released a video message from an undisclosed location denying that he had pushed the CID officials and stating that he is open to contesting the upcoming Assembly election ‘if the people and his supporters’ desire so.
