BENGALURU: In a major decision, the state government has rescinded the appointments of the heads of 47 boards and corporations after much dilly-dallying. The new appointments will be announced in a day or two.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai issued the orders late on Monday evening. While most of the appointments were made during the tenure of former chief minister B S Yediyurappa, some MLAs and former legislators may be retained.
Last August, a three-member committee of R Ashoka, Laxman Savadi and Nirmal Kumar Surana had recommended recasting of the boards and corporations, but was hanging fire. During the BJP executive committee meeting held in Hyderabad recently, the paty top brass is learnt to have directed the CM to go ahead with the exercise.
The presidents and vice-presidents of the respective boards and corporations have already been notified by the officials on Tuesday. The CM had hinted at the resignations earlier on Monday.
Among the casualties are loyalists of Yediyurappa and his son B Y Vijayendra, who is also the state party vice-president. They include Lingamurthy, Thammesh Gowda, L R Mahadevaswamy, Bellur Raghavendra Shetty who was involved in a spat with IPS officer D Roopa, Sharanu Bhimanna Tallikeri, Nandish Hanche. Also out are women’s commission chairperson Pramila Naidu, Chalana Chitra Academy chairman Sunil Puranik and actor-politician Shruti.
Those who seem to be safe are actor-politician Tara Anuradha, former MUDA chairman H V Rajiv and Rudresh. Only last evening, Rudresh had dashed to the CM’s residence.
Yediyurappa’s close associates KaPu Siddalingaiah, chairman of the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation too seems to be in the safe zone.
