BENGALURU: Academic activities at the Kittur Rani Chennamma residential school at Telagarahalli in Anekal have almost come to a halt with classes barely being conducted through the week. Students allege that classes are conducted only 2-3 days in a week due to lack of permanent teachers.

The students are from different parts of the state and came with many dreams, but the government has not appointed proper teachers as a result of which they are deprived of academic activities. When the parents and leaders of the KRS organisation questioned about the issue, the school in-charge did not allow them to take videos.

A student of the school questioned how they are to prepare for exams if this is the situation in the school. “There are no permanent teachers for English, Social Science and Hindi. Teachers come from other schools two or three days a week to teach here. The students of  Classes 6, 7 and 8 have not had proper academic schedules so far and they are worried about facing the exam this time”, the student said.

Parent Hema said the SSLC students are worried because the syllabus has not been covered properly. “These students have no computer knowledge and thought there are computers in the school, teachers have not been appointed here. There is no permanent warden, headmaster and physical education teacher for the last eight years. The students are in trouble now and even parents are suffering after admitting our children here”.

Radha, the in-charge head teacher of the school admitted, “We have written to the government, but the teachers have not been appointed so far and students have missed the syllabus”.

Apart from the syllabus, the residential students complain about water issues, allergies, poor maintenance in the hostel, poor food quality, lack of maintenance on campus, cots not being provided for them and other issues.
