Bengaluru police to keep watch over eight party hotspots ahead of New Year

BENGALURU: City Police Commissioner Pratap Reddy on Friday held a meeting with senior police officers to review preparations for the New Year celebrations.

The police department has identified some major party spots in the city and will keep a hawk’s eye on activities in those areas. More than 5,000 CCTV cameras will be installed to record people’s movements and over 20 drone cameras will be operational during the New Year’s Eve celebration in these area.

The police have divided the city into eight zones which will be monitored. A special team will monitor the eight zones and more than 400 personnel will be appointed.

Brigade Road is one of the popular party spots with pubs and clubs which will be hosting grand parties. Church Street is another popular hangout and additional CCTVs have been installed.

Another party hotspot is Koramangala with numerous pubs and hotels. Indiranagar, with many popular watering holes, is also on the radar and around 600 police personnel will deployed for patrolling.

Security will also be enhanced in in Kalyannagar and Banaswadi areas. According to the police, many foreign nationals live in these areas and there are high chances of drug or rave parties being held.

Likewise, Marathahalli and Bellandur will also be under watch as they are known to be party hubs for people from outside the state. Moreover, IT/BT employees come here in large numbers.

Police Commissioner Pratap Reddy said on Friday that no fresh curbs will be imposed for Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations. “The previously followed guidelines will be applied. and no new curbs will be implemented. We are holding discussions on it”, he added.
