Anna Bhagya beneficiaries also to be screened, 13-14 lakh not eligible

BENGALURU: After Gruha Lakshmi and Gruha Jyothi, now ineligible beneficiaries of the Anna Bhagya scheme are to be weeded out too. A major revision exercise of the list of beneficiaries under Anna Bhagya is set to begin in the state soon.
A whopping 13-14 lakh beneficiaries are on the ineligible list. Food and Civil Supplies Minister K H Muniyappa has urged ineligible beneficiaries to voluntary shift to above poverty line (APL) category and warned that action will be taken without hesitation against those who do not comply.

Minister Muniyappa has given a call for ‘give up’ call for Anna Bhagya guarantee from ineligible beneficiaries. There are 1.27 crore registered beneficiaries under the Anna Bhagya scheme and the government is spending Rs 657 crore paid per month on it.

The central government had identified 7.76 lakh suspicious ration cards in Karnataka. The Karnataka Government’s Kutumba software detected a total of 13.87 lakh ineligible BPL ration cards in the state.

Minister Muniyappa announced that there are 13-14 lakh ineligible beneficiaries under Anna Bhagya. “It will be good if they voluntarily give up Anna Bhagya. We appeal to them to make way for the poor. A revision of the list of beneficiaries will be undertaken after calling a meeting soon”, he said.

As per the list of ineligible Anna Bhagya beneficiaries released by the Food and Civil Supplies, Department there are 13.87 lakh ration cards are ineligible. These include those who have not taken ration for the last six months (2,75,667), income tax payers (98,473), those with income above Rs 1.20 lakh per annum (10,09,475) Government employees (4,039), totalling 13,87,651. These many cards will be revised soon.
