BENGALURU: A city-based high court lawyer has written to the governor and higher education minister alleging that eight colleges coming under the Bangalore Univeristy are committing irregularities in the name of running regular BEd courses. He has alleged that classes are not even conducted at these colleges.
Lawyer Lakshmipathi, in his letter, has alleged that the colleges have secured recognition for different purposes but claim to be conducting BEd courses. This is causing injustice to students while bringing down the quality of education, he noted.
The lawyer has listed Smt Manjula Mallesh College of Education in Nagarbhavi, BRV BEd College, Sunkadakatte, Shushruti BEd College in Andrahalli, Anugraha BEd College, Banashankari, Basaveshwara College of Education, Vijayanagar, Amitha College of Education, Raghavendra College of Education and Capital College in Bengaluru.
The lawyer has stated that the colleges have secured recognition for running BEd courses, but are not conducting classes. When students question the authorities, frivolous reasons are given. Though 75 per cent attendance is mandatory, the students are awarded attendance though classes are not conducted, he noted.
When Public TV conducted a reality check at a college in Nagarbhavi, the college authorities did not give satisfactory explanation. To top it all, there were no BEd students at the college. “We have affiliation for regular courses and classes are being conducted. Some students come in shifts and hence, they are not seen outside. Even the staff are coming to work regularly and seven periods are conducted and we have not received any sort of notice”, said Bhagyalakshmi Nagaraj, a representative of the college management.
The lawyer said the higher education department should launch an investigation and take action against erring colleges immediately.
