BENGALURU: A delegation of BJP leaders from the coastal region, including MLAs, met Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot here and lodged a complaint with him regarding the Udupi paramedical college incident. They urged the governor to bring pressure on the government to hand over the investigation to a special investigation team (SIT).

The BJP seems determined to make the incident a major issue to attack the Congress government in the state and has decided to hold a protest in the coming days.

The delegation was led by MLC Kota Srinivas Pujary. After submitting the memorandum to the Governor at Raj Bhavan, Srinivas Pujary said the government had let down civil society in the video case of the Udupi student. “We urged the governor to pressure the government to hand over the case to an SIT. But the government is delaying and even the CM did not take it seriously. The government has completely failed to maintain law and order. The student should be protected. The governor had promised to give appropriate directives to the government. If the government continues to show stubborness, then we would think about taking it to the central government”.

Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna said, “The government is silent about the incident and is supporting the jihadists. The incident has caused embarassment to the people of Udupi, but the government has preferred to remain quiet. The case should be investigated at the highest level and the victims should get justice. Therefore, we have appealed to the governor to hand over the investigation to the SIT”.
