BENGALURU: With the conflict in the Middle East affecting crude oil prices and the recent hike prices of commercial gas cylinders, hoteliers in Bengaluru are considering an increase in food prices.
Due to the effect of the Middle East conflict, the price of almost every item is increasing. Commercial LPG cylinder, vegetable and even grocery prices have seen considerable increase. The prices of various daily use food items in hotels including sugar, onion, rice has increased by 30 to 50 per cent. Due to this it has become difficult to run hotels and the owners feel that a price hike is inevitable.
If the prices do not reduce in another week, the price of tea, coffee along with other items will increase in hotels. Hotels that had recovered from gas cylinder shortage and financial loss are now burdened with price hike again. This burden will inevitably hit customers.
“After the war broke out in West Asia, commercial LPG cylinder prices shot up very high and started eating into our profits. Now, we are suffering losses. Now, the supply has eased, but prices of LPG cylinders have not come down. Add to that, the price of sugar has nearly doubled. The price of rice has also increased by 30-35 per cent and the prices of tur dal, urad dal, rava and cooking oil has also increased. If this continues, we will have to increase prices as we have no other option. We request the state and central governments to intervene and provide some relief”, Umesh, a hotelier, told Public TV.
