BENGALURU: Within days of a Namma Metro train getting stuck on the tracks at Cubbon Park station on the purple line, another train faced problems at the same station on Thursday night as the doors would not close.

Passengers struggled as metro doors did not close and the service resumed after repairs. The metro door failed to close because a passenger’s metal chain got stuck in the metro door guideway. After preliminary investigation, Namma Metro authorities clarified that there was no issue with the train’s equipment.

On Thursday, due to the incident of train doors not closing properly at Cubbon Park metro station on the Purple Line, metro services were temporarily disrupted from 7.36 pm to 7.54 pm. An investigation by the Operations and Maintenance teams revealed that the doors could not close properly because a passenger’s metal chain got stuck in the train door guideway, resulting in a temporary delay in operations.

After a comprehensive technical inspection of the train and its door system, it was confirmed that no technical fault was found in the train’s equipment. “Passenger safety is our highest priority. We are committed to providing safe, reliable, and continuous metro services” said, Yashavant Chavan, Chief Public Relations Officer, BMRCL.

The second largest metro network in the country has been facing a series of problems. In the last three years, the Namma Metro has witnessed glitches on 21 occasions, that too during peak hours.
