BENGALURU: The Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has opposed the Congress government’s move to allows hijab in schools and colleges by withdrawing a 2022 order issued by the previous BJP government.

Speaking to Public TV, ABVP Bengaluru City Joint Secretary Kottappa Maradi said, “We cannot accept the government order. The hijab issue is being heard in the Supreme Court. At this time, we cannot welcome the government issuing such an order all of a sudden. It seems the government has done this to appease one community”.

“Since the case is in the Supreme Court, it is not appropriate for us to speak on it. Allowing hijab will again create confusion in schools and colleges. We will discuss and decide in a day or two about ABVP’s next course of action”, he added.

Udupi BJP MLA V Sunil Kumar said, “The popularity of the Congress government has declined and even Muslims have turned against Congress. In Davanagere South, Muslims have turned against them, Muslims are holding meetings against Congress. To secure their vote bank, they have brought back hijab again. The government has taken a shocking stand. Due to the government’s excesses, the pot of sin is full”.

“There is public consensus that hijab should not be part of uniforms. We had opposed hijab in government schools. The government should not become a Taliban government, it should not be a government run on the directions of mullahs. There is no connection between the janivara and hijab. Chaos will erupt in all schools. By permitting hijab, the government is committing contempt of court”, he said.
