Three men in Delhi watched a movie called Pushpa – The Rise and ended up inspired by Allu Arjun’s character went, ‘let’s kill someone today,’ and murdered a young 24-year-old man.
In a twisted fate of events 15, 16 and 17 year-old teenagers are accused of murdering a 24-year-old man in a park in Delhi while the victim was playing Gilli Danda (a predominantly rural Indian game played with two sticks, barring the sticks the game is similar to bat and ball games). The accused were about post the murder on their Instagram to gain more followers on their respective social media.
What was the motivation?
The three men watched Allu Arjun’s new movie Pushpa – Thee Rise and were inspired by his character. So they formed a group of 10-15 men and christened their group ‘Badnaam’ (Infamous/Disresputable). The three accused, on January 19 picked a trivial fight with Shibu Hussain, the victim, and the conflict escalated quickly which resulted in Shibu’s murder.
As Shibu’s body was handed over to his family, DCP Usha Rani spoke to the media from the hospital and informed them that the accused were found through CCTV cameras that caught the altercation and were arrested within 12 hours.
“We caught them at the right time. The accused were about to post this murder on their social media to gain more followers and motivate others to do the same,” said DCP Usha Rani.
ACP Tilak Chandra Bisht’s team arrested the accused and their murder weapons are ceased. It is also being said that along with Pushpa the MX Player Hindi crime series ‘Bhaukaal’ was also an inspiration.
The accused were active on social media and were often seen dancing to lip-synching videos. However, police state that they also posted violent videos on their feeds.
