BENGALRURU: The KSRTC Mysuru division controller’s officer has instructed its staff to ensure that men occupy only the seats reserved for them on buses. This comes after complaints from male passengers that they are not getting seats due to the increasing number of women passengers.
Earlier, buses were not runnng on time. Now, despite paying for tickets, men are not getting seats. Male passengers are expressing their outrage that in many parts of the state, people have to stand while traveling for a distances of 60-70 km.
The problem began after the Shakti Scheme free travel scheme for women was implemented. As a result, the number of women passengers has increased, leading to a shortage of seats for men. Men are complaining that they are not getting seats and are being forced to stand for long distances.
A regular traveller and resident of Mysuru, Vishnuvardhan, filed a complaint with the KSRTC Mysuru division, requesting that seats be allocated for men as well. Following this, the division has instructed its staff to ensure that men occupy only the seats reserved for them.
The KSRTC has also been instructed to submit a report on the actions taken regarding this issue. The Mysuru division has been told to ensure that men are allocated seats and that the buses are operated according to the rules.
The Shakti Scheme stipulates that 50 per cent of the seats on buses should be reserved for men. However, this rule is not being followed properly. The Mysuru division’s traffic controller’s office has been instructed to rectify this issue and ensure that men are allocated seats according to the rules.
Seats are reserved for women in government buses, but not for men. With the increase in the number of women passengers, women are now occupying the unreserved seats too, forcing men to stand and travel. The issue has sparked a debate, with some arguing that men should be allocated seats, while others feel that women should be given priority. The KSRTC has been instructed to find a solution to this issue and ensure that both men and women are able to travel comfortably.
