Woman kidnaps boyfriend for Rs 10 lakh ransom, arrested along with 6 accomplices

BENGALURU: A young man who had come to meet his girlfriend was kidnapped for ransom and assaulted by her and her associates in Koramangala police limits in the city.

The woman, who is the mastermind behind the kidnapping, has a history of being involved in similar crimes. The victim had been in a relationship with the woman and had been completely unaware of her intentions.

Shiva and Monica were in love for the last 3-4 years from their days in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. Everything was going well. A few days ago, she called Shiva and said her friends want to see him and told him to bring along his gold ornaments in an Innova car. Believing Monica, Shiva came in an Innova car with 60 grams of gold ornaments.

Monica and her gang kidnapped Shiva, stole his gold ornaments, and demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh. She convinced Shiva to give Rs 5 lakh to them.

Shiva had couriered the ATM card to an address in Majestic area of Bengaluru and had come to Koramangala to withdraw money. But while withdrawing money from an ATM, there was a scuffle between the accused.

Meanwhile, PSI Madesh, who was on night rounds, became suspicious and questioned them when the kidnapping and extortion case came to light.The Koramangala police, who have registered a case, have arrested the accused Monica, Harish, Harikrishna, Naresh, Rajkumar, Narasimha and Anjanil. All the seven arrested are from Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. The police recovered the stolen gold ornaments.

South East DCP, Sara Fatima, said that the police had arrested seven accused, including the woman, in connection with the kidnapping and assault case. “Shiva and Monica had been in a relationship with him for 3-4 years. Of the seven accused, two have more than five cases each against them. Shiva was running a medical shop in Nellore. The Koramangala SI was on night rounds when a scuffle broke out between the accused near an ATM. He noticed that 3 people were fighting. He became suspicious and brought them to the station. During interrogation, it was revealed that he had been kidnapped”, the DCP explained.

“Accused Monica herself called Shiva from Andhra Pradesh to Pavagada, near Penukonda in Hindupur. Later, the accused kidnapped him and kept him in a private hotel in Pavagada for three days. They took his gold ornaments and mortgaged them. They again demanded more money. The victim borrowed Rs 5 from his friends. Later, he said that he had left his debit card at home and that he should courier it to his Bengaluru address. The accused were caught while withdrawing the money”, the DCP said.

According to the complaint, Shiva had paid Rs 5 lakh 60 gm of gold to his abductors. Further investigation is under way.
