KALABURAGI: A statue of former chief minister Siddaramaiah was installed by his fans around 3 am on Thursday near Biddapur Cross, leading to a confusing atmosphere for some time. Later in the day, city corporation officials removed under police protection it as the statue was installed without permission.

Earlier, at the same circle, Koli community leaders had submitted request to corporation officials to install statue of late Vitthal Heroor, while Siddaramaiah fans had put board as Siddaramaiah Circle itself as the name of circle. On Thursday, suddenly, a statue of Siddaramaiah sprung up overnight.

Interestingly, the statue installation was done even as Chief Minister D K Shivakumar is on a tour of Kalaburagi district as part of Kalyana Karnataka Utsav celebration. Shivakumar was to headed to Afzalpur and Ganagapura through the same route.

Two-three years ago, some people had installed a banner of Siddaramaiah and constructed Siddaramaiah Circle whe he was CM, that too without taking permission.
