KOPPAL: The president of a gram panchayat refused to hold a poster with a picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an event, at Kudurimoti village in Kukanoor taluk. The incident occurred about two weeks ago and a video of the gram panchayat president refusing to hold the poster has since gone viral.

A programme was held in front of the gram panchayat office under the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra to highlight the schemes of the Union government. While posters were being given out to all the participants in the meeting, gram panchayat president Farida Begum repeatedly refused to hold it.

The action of the gram panchayat president has drawn the ire of the BJP which said Farida Begum refused to hold the poster despite pleas by the gram panchayat staff. It was a government programme and the gram panchayat president should not have acted in such a manner, the local BJP leaders have said.
