Vijayapura, Kampli shut down in protest against Amit Shah’s remarks on Ambedkar

Vijayapura town wore a deserted look on Monday.

VIJAYAPURA, BALLARI: Vijayapura and Kampli town observed a bandh today in response to calls given by the Congress and Dalit groups in protest against the remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament with respect to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar.

In Vijayapura, there was a complete bandh with no bus services and shops and business establishments shut down. With no bus services, many found it difficult to reach their destinations. Traffic movement was also thin. A protest march was also taken out.

At Toravi village in Tikota taluk, protesters burnt tyres and blocked traffic on the Vijayapura-Athani National Highway-548.

 

Kampli town in Ballari district too observed a complete shutdown with bus and auto services suspended and shops and businesses shut. Traders’ associations and Kannada groups had also extended their suppor to the bandh call. However, schools and colleges remained open.
