Undaunted by mother’s death, Hosanagar girl writes entrance test for BSc course

Spoorthi wrote the entrance exam despite losing her mother just the previous day.

SHIVAMOGGA: Putting aside her personal tragedy, a girl who had lost her mother, wrote the entrance exam for the BSc Agriculture course and the last rites were conducted later.

Anuradha (45), wife of Nagaraj, residents of Shantapura in Hosanagar taluk, had been unwell for some time and had been hospitalised in Shivamogga. However, she did not respond to treatment and died on Monday. The body was brought back home the same day.

The couple’s daughter Spoorthi (18), who had applied for the BSc course under the quota for farmers’ children, had to attend a practical exam the next day. Despite losing her mother, the girl attended the exam after convincing the elders in the family. The last rites of Anuradha was conducted later.

Spoorthi had secured 90 per cent marks in PUC and has appeared for the CET too. She hopes to pursue a course in science.
