Former Dharwad councillor gets three months in jail in cheque bounce case

DHARWAD: A former councillor of the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC), Srikanth Tirakappa Jamanal, has been sentenced to undergo three months imprisonment by the district court here in a cheque bounce case.

Srikanth had borrowed Rs 5 lakh from Manjunath Gurusangappa Dannur. When he did not return the money, Manjunath had filed a cheque bounce case in 2018. However, in 2019, Srikanth had agreed in court to pay up and the two had reached a compromise.

The former councillor has been sentenced to undergo a jail term for three months.

However, when he did not pay up and went into hiding, the court issued an arrest warrant. The Dharwad Suburban police arreested Srikanth on Friday and presented him before the chief judicial magistrate court who sentenced him to three months imprisonment.
