HAVERI: Two people died after the car they were travelling in hit a roadside tamarind tree after the driver lost control near Halageri on the national highway in Ranebennur taluk on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Vittal Raikar (47) and Jayanthi (50). The woman had dropped off her daughter, who was to go abroad, at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru and was returning to Hulekal village in Sirsi taluk when the accident occurred.
It is said that Vittal Raikar was continuously behind the wheel on July 17 and 18 and may have lost control due to driver fatigue and drowziness. The Halageri police have registered a case.
