Truck driver who wasn’t able to pay up fine for reckless driving found hanging from tree

CHITRADURGA: A truck driver, who had gone missing from the Holalkere police station last month after he was stopped for traffic violation, was found handing from a under suspicious circumstances on Friday evening. The decomposed body was found near the graveyard in Holakere.

On June 5, truck driver Basavanth Kumar (37), a resident of Kattigehalli in Jagalur taluk of Davanagere district, was stopped near a gorge in Holalkere for speeding and rash and negligent driving. The police later brought the truck to the Holalkere police station.

The truck driver was found hanging from a tree near a graveyard.

Unable to pay the traffic fine, Basavanth Kumar had spent the night in front of the police station and the next morning, he left the place leaving the truck behind. His parents had even staged a protest in front of the Chitradurga SP’s office demanding that he should be located.

After remaining missing for 25 days, his body was found hanging from a tree on Friday evening, giving rise to much speculation. However, police sources maintained that Basavanth Kumar had suffered liver damage due to excessive alcohol consumption and was upset over his ill health, due to which he committed suicide.
