Six from Kalaburagi dead, five seriously injured as passenger vehicle collides with cement truck near Akkalkot

Six people died on the spot after the MPV collided with the cement truck.

KALABURAGI: Six people, including five from the same village, were killed when the Force Toofan MPV they were travelling in collided with a cement truck near Shivalawadi village in Akkalkot taluk of Solhapur village in Maharashtra on Friday. All the deceased were from Anoor village in Aland taluk of Kalaburagi district.

About 25 people had gone on pilgrimage in two Cruiser vehicles to the Dattatreya temple in Devala Ganagapura, Chhatavari Bhagyavanti and Swami Samarth temples in Akkalkot and were returning to their village when the accident occurred. The bodies were strewn at the accident site and had to be extricated from under the MPV.

The deceased were identified as Lalitabai Mahadev Bugge (50), Rohini Gopal Pujari (40), Sundarabai Bharatsingh Rajput (55), Sainath Govind Pujari (10), Sangeeta Mandan Gane (35) and Chaya Hanuman Nanavare (46). Five others who were seriously injured were shifted to a private hospitalin Solapur for treatment.

Aland former MLA Subhash Guttedar visited the injured at hospital on Friday. The Akkalkot police have arrested the truck driver Hasan Azamuddin Patel and seized the vehicle. Further investigation is under way.
