BENGALURU: Days after a BMTC bus conductor was arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman passenger, a ticket checking inspector has been accused of assaulting a student and putting his hands into the latter’s pockets to take out money. The student was later treated at the Manipal Hospital on Sarjapur Road as an outpatient.

The incident is said to have occurred a week ago and the student has emailed the BMTC headquarters regarding the incident. As per the complaint by Kamrul Hoque, who hails from Assam and is a medical student, he was travelling from Bellandur to Sarjapura on March 25 when the checking inspector got on to the bus midway.

Kamrul claimed that he had got on to the bus along with the ticket checking inspector and was yet to buy the ticket. He even asked the inspector to check the CCTV footage in the bus. However, the checking inspector started abusing and assaulting him and even put his hands into Kamrul’s pocket to take out money, as per the complaint.

Though some passengers on the bus sided with Kamrul, he was fined Rs 450 against the fare of Rs 45. He was even manhandled and a video of the altercation has gone viral on social media. After much criticism of the officials’ behaviour, the BMTC has now launched an investigation into the incident.
