CHITRADURGA, RAICHUR, BIDAR: Street dogs attacked four children in a single day in Chitradurga while a four-year-old boy was badly mauled by dogs at Maliyabad village in Raichur district.
In Chitradurga, the attacks on children took place in Chelagudda and Nehru Nagar areas. The menace of street dogs has gone out of control across the city. On Monday alone, four children were bitten by dogs. The injured children — around 5-6 year old Alina, Adil, Manvith and another boy — are receiving treatment at Chitradurga District Hospital.
The dogs attacked the children who were playing in the house yard, and also a boy who was returning home after going to tuition. Parents have alleged that despite bringing the street dog menace to the attention of officials several times to put a stop to it, there has been no use. They say the attacks on children happened because officials failed to control the dog menace.
Parents have expressed anger against the Chitradurga City Municipal Council and the district administration for their negligence. They also alleged that even when they rushed to the district hospital in panic after the dog bites, proper treatment was not available on time. They claimed there were no anti-rabies injections for dog bites and that they had to struggle. They expressed outrage, saying treatment was given only after they brought injections from outside.
In Maliyabad village, Raichur, street dogs attacked and indiscriminately bit four-year-old Venugopal, who was playing in front of his house, leaving him with serious injuries. The dogs bit the boy completely on his head, and also bit his legs and hands, causing serious injuries. The boy has been admitted to a private hospital in Raichur where he is being treated in the ICU.
Venugopal’s parents are worried about their son’s condition and have expressed their anger. Other parents in the village are also scared due to the menace of street dogs. The incident occurred within Yargera police station limits. Villagers have urged authorities to immediately control the menace of street dogs.
Just recently, in K. Hanchinal Camp, Sindhanur, dogs attacked and killed an 18-month-old infant. Now in Maliyabad, they have bitten a boy and left him seriously injured.
In yet another incident at Chidri in Bidar city, street dogs entered a house, dragged out a live goat and bit it to death. The goat belonged to Rafiwuddin, a resident of Chidri. The incident occurred at night while everyone was sleeping in the house. Losing his goat, owner Rafiwuddin vented his anger at the municipal corporation officials for failing to put a stop to the menace of street dogs.
