South Western Railway on alert following spate of fire accidents on trains

BENGALURU: The officials of South West Zone, Bengaluru division, are on high alert after the increasing number of fire accidents in trains. The railway authorities have detected and fined those who were carrying flammable substances and firecrackers on trains.

Yogish Mohan, Divisional Manager, South West Zone, said these days, there have been spate of fire accidents and major disasters on trains reported in various parts of the country. South Western Railway officials have created awareness among railway passengers about avoiding fire accidents and safe travel in trains. From April until now, those who were transporting flammable substances and firecrackers in trains have been identified and 258 cases have been registered alongĀ  with imposing fines.

A complaint has been registered under IPC Section 67 of the Railway Act against five people who were carrying firecrackers in trains during the Deepavali festival. A team of officers and supervisors from the Railway, Commercial, Railway Protection Force, Mechanical, and Electrical Departments have detected dangerous substances, smokers in 30 stations, and created awareness on more than 190 trains, Yogish Mohan added.

The Railways also distributed 3,500 pamphlets among passengers at Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna City Railway Station, Yeshwantpur, SMVT, Krishnarajapuram stations, and among the public to create awareness about fire hazards and precautions.
