TUMAKUR: The forest officials rescued a three-year-old sloth bear which had got caught in wires tied around a chikoo (sapota) tree at Kadaboranahalli village in Huliyurdurga on Friday.
Rajanna, a resident of the village, had grown various fruit-bearing trees, including chikoo, on his farm. A sloth bear had climbed the tree to eat fruits, but caught in the wires tied around the tree and got stuck.
Immediately, the villagers informed the forest officials. Deputy Conservator of Forests Anupama, Range Forest Officer Mohammad Mansoor, Veterinary Officer Umashankar of the Bannerghatta Wildlife Department visited the spot, tranquilised the animal and rescued it. They checked its health and moved it to a safe place.
