BENGALURU: The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) seems to be in no mood to relent on the fee for collecting and disposing chicken and mutton waste from shops. The GBA has warned that if waste is not given and the fee paid, the trade licence of such will be cancelled.
In a major shock to chicken and mutton shops in Bengaluru, the GBA had imposed a fee for collecting and disposing chicken, mutton shop waste. The Karnataka Chicken Traders Association had even staged a protest against this move. Now, the GBA has said there is no exemption in the fee and has warned of trade licence cancellation for non-adherence.
Chicken and mutton shops in Bengaluru, and those running poultry farms do not dispose of animal waste properly and dump it everywhere due to which there is no cleanliness and foul smell emanates. As it affects the city’s beauty, the GBA itself has started collecting animal waste and had imposed a fee of 5 Rs per kg for disposal. However, chicken traders association had opposed this and protested by closing business for two days.
“There is no question of going back on collecting animal waste and we request the traders to cooperate with us. Whenever a new system is introduced, there is bound to be some resistance, but we will speak to them. If the traders do not cooperate, then their trade licence will be cancelled”, said Bengaluru North City Corporation Commissioner Jagadeesha G.
Those running chicken and mutton shops, poultry farm dump waste into drains, lakes and pits and do not dispose it off properly. Because of this, it causes infectious diseases and also, there will also be no hygiene. The GBA if firm that animal waste must be given to it and for no reason, fee exemption will be given. Along with this, the GBA has warned that it is proceeding according to court guidelines itself.
