BENGALURU: Muslim residents of Bismillah Nagar have requested the BMRCL to name Tavarekere Metro Station as Bismillah Nagar. The Pink line of Namma Metro is to be inaugurated soon.
However, there has been opposition started to request to renaming the Metro station with netizens suggesting that the Tavarekere name be retained while expressing opposition to the name Bismillah Nagar on social media. One social media user posted on X, “Today, they are asking for the Bismillah Nagar name, tomorrow they will ask for something else. The government and Namma Metro should not change the name for any reason whatsoever”.
Why is the local muslim community making any demands at all when it comes to naming any of the metro stations? Tavarakere is not a muslim area either. And it’s a metro station, not a biryani shop. Also most metro users are Hindus, not Muslims. Also who tf is bismillah? It should… https://t.co/SprArqzMsU

Hindu organisations have also expressed outrage to naming the historic Tavarekere Metro Station as Bismillah Nagar. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti leader Mohan Gowda said, “This request of Muslim leaders is most regrettable. All Hindus should strongly oppose this as 90 per cent Hindus live in Tavarekere. This is the work of Islamists. Tavarekere is a historic name and for no reason, the name should be changed. BMRCL should not succumb to anyone’s pressure”.
Don’t Rename Tavarekere!
We strongly oppose the demand to rename the historic Tavarekere Metro Station as “Bismil Nagar.”
Respect the area’s historical and popular identity. Retain the name Tavarekere!@OfficialBMRCL https://t.co/zT0C3ZR5ZD pic.twitter.com/TsvpGO0EsP

Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik also fumed over the proposal and questioned whether Bismillah was a freedom fighter and also his Bismillah’s contribution to state. He warned of fierce protest if the Metro station is named after Bismillah.
“Locals” want Tavarekere metro named Bismilla Nagar because more Muslims live there.
Hope they do not demand halal trains next 🤡@officialBMRCL I demand this station be named after Jagadguru Basavanna.
How many stations are named after Basavanna or Buddha?
Anyone know? 🤔 https://t.co/uPhabyENYf pic.twitter.com/zf7B2lyeND

“Sri Rama Sene strongly opposes any thought of name change. The Congress should not change the name for Muslim appeasement. If you have to name the metro station, name it after Ambedkar or Kempegowda. Will you name the Shivajinagar metro station after Afzal just because Muslim number more in that locality? Congress doing Muslim appeasement. In Davanagere, they ask for party ticket saying Muslim number is more. Muslim appeasement should be stopped first”, he fumed.
Muthalik also expressed outrage against T Narsipur Police Inspector Dhananjay. “That is not just Inspector mentality, it is the entire Congress mentality. Hundreds of conditions have been put for DJ use and Ganesha idol installation. The inspector has spoken arrogantly and should be transferred or suspended. Is this Pakistan to say ‘don’t go in front of church, don’t go in front of mosque?’ This is festival that unites without any religion language. Congress is reason for such arrogance”, he said.
