BELAGAVI: A city corporation engineer who had gone to clear footpath encroachments at Nath Pai Circle here was attacked by shop owners who also broke the glass of an excavator used for the operation on Saturday.
More than 40 people attempted to assault the engineer and damaged the excavator, leading to a tense atmosphere for some time. Corporation officials protested and expressed outrage over the attack.
They later lodged a complaint at the Shahapur police station. Corporation Commissioner Karthik also visited the spot. The complaint has sought legal action against those who were involved in the assault.
