BENGALURU: Vehicle owners in the city, especially those whose vehicles have been towed away for parking by the roadside, pay the fine and get the vehicle released. if not, the vehicles will be sold as scrap.
Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has given instructions to the authorities concerned to auction the abandoned vehicles and the GBA is preparing to auction and scrap vehicles to junk.
Abandoned vehicles across Bengaluru, which were parked on the roadside for years, were seized by the police and the GBA and traffic police are towing them away. Already, about 11,000 abandoned vehicles have been identified by traffic police and GBA officials.
Abandoned vehicles are towed and parked on the outskirts of Bengaluru with a target to tow about 1,000 vehicles every month. Already, minister Krishna Byre Gowda has given instructions to tow awy vehicles that are old and junked.
The GBA, which was sticking notices and towing abandoned vehicles parked on roadside, has returned vehicles to some vehicle owners. The GBA had identified total 8,641 abandoned vehicles of which notice was stuck on 2,122 vehicles. Fines of Rs 5.45 lakh were collected from the owners of the abandoned vehicles and 1,024 vehicles have been taken back by the owners after paying the fine.
The remaining abandoned vehicles have been parked at identified places and vehicle owners can pay the fine and get their vehicles released. The GBA had fixed Rs. 500 fine for abandoned vehicle parked on roadside for years. Now, it will auction and scrap vehicles to junk which are not claimed.
Further Revenue Department has earmarked six places for parking seized vehicles. and the GBA will soon start auction. If there are vehicle owners, they can immediately pay fine and get vehicles released.
