Scooterist comes under rear wheel of BMTC bus near IISc after car zips past

The body lay on the road for more than half an hour before it was cleared.

BENGALURU: A two-wheeler rider died after he came under the rear wheel of a BMTC bus on the Prof C N R Rao grade separator in front of the Indian Institute of Science )IISc) on Monday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Eshwar (43), a goldsmith and resident of Vidyaranyapura.

The body lay on the road for more than half an hour till the police arrived and shifted it to MS Ramaiah hospital for post-mortem examination. As the autopsy room was closed at 4.30 pm, it will be done on Tuesday morning after taking the consent of the family members.

The BMTC bus driver claimed that the speeding car brushed againt the two-wheeler, causing the rider to fall.

According to the driver of the BMTC bus (KA 57 F 4400), he was driving along the left side of the road when a car sped past and took a sharp turn towards Dr C V Raman Road. The scooter rider was caught between the bus and the car and his two-wheeler handle brushed against the car, causing him to fall. “Before I could apply brakes, the rear wheel had gone over him”, the bus driver claimed.

Due to the accident, there was a traffic jam stretching between Yeshwantpur Circle and Circle Maramma temple for some time. The bus passengers were accommodated on another bus.

The victim Eshwar was living with his wife and two sons, one aged 13 and the other 10. After the autopsy on Tuesday, the body will be handed over to the family for the final rites.
